Born in Newburgh, NY - raised in Virginia, SMOOVE L a.k.a. CHUB E.
ROYAL is ready for the world. Ever since he first heard ERIC B and RAKIM's
"PAID IN FULL" his heart was set on being an M.C. - not just any M.C., a
lyrical and meaningful "EMCEE". Blessed with an undeniable strength in his
voice plus the ability to capture your mind and your heart with word-play, he's
a force to be reckoned with. The underground scene has gotten a taste through
live performances, mix CDs, and studio collaborations as SMOOVE L honed his
skills.
After a few years of roaming up and down the east coast looking for the perfect beat, SMOOVE L formed a team (SMOOVE L ENTERPRISES), set up shop in Virginia, and independently released "SMOOVE L - THE PRE-ALBUM". With no budget and few industry contacts, he relied on raw talent and a hard-nosed "On Take On The Track" attitude to make it happen. SMOOVE L confesses "I knew I wa going fast! But I just didn't have the bread to be up in the studio all night getting it perfect, and I felt like I had to get something out there for 2005. So I decided to call it THE PRE-ALBUM, anticipating a buzz so that my official album would definitely be appreciated." Amazingly, "THE PRE-ALBUM" exceeded all reasonable expectations and has received significant acclaim from fans as well as music industry professionals as it leaks out of the underground scene. "Honey Dip" appears to be "the breakout hit" of the CD, quickly becoming a favorite and receiving airplay as far away as Finland. SMOOVE L sums up the excitement of the CD "Given the circumstances, I feel as though I pretty much achieved the impossible with this CD. The positive response I'm getting from people just makes me want to work harder to promote it. For example, I had an opportunity to perform at a club that had no monitors on their sound system and this situation is not really what you want as a performer, but I did it anyway because I've had so much success lately that I just feel I can't lose. I had to work harder to rock the mic that night, but I still rocked it and I got my name out to a few more people." |
